While our HID kits are 100% plug and play, the hardest part about the installation is finding a good spot to mount your ballasts. We decided to post up some pictures and information on where we recommend the ballasts to be mounted on all of our HID headlight kits.
Driver Side
On the drivers side, when you remove the headlamp, you will see decent side hole in which you can pass all the HID wires through and tuck your ballast behind. Please see the picture below for reference.
As you can see, our ballast is tucked in between the headlamp post and battery. We recommend to first install your new HID bulb, then plug in the connections to the ballast, and finally , slide the ballast into place. Please note, there is more than enough space for two ballasts to be tucked in behind this hole. Those of you with HID Foglight kits, you can also tuck the ballast from that kit in behind the headlamp and run the wires down to your foglamp.
Passenger Side
Mounting the ballast on the passenger side is as simple as making all of your connections to the HID bulb and then simply using double sided tape to secure the ballast to the fenderwall as shown in the picture below.
Notice, we are running a JLT True Ram air on our 04 Mach 1. Even if you have the stock induction set up, you will still have plenty of space on the fenderwall to install the ballast. The wires will be long enough to reach the HID bulb.
With the examples outlined above, mounting your ballasts in this manner will help keep them away from water and any moving engine parts. The ballasts are for the most part water resistant and will not be harmed if exposed to small amounts of water.
